A long cue was formed to talk to Santa!! we were all really excited!!

Santa is always very busy at this time of the year so he had to left the party to hear more children's wishes for christmas. But the party wasn't over and childrens and parents had supper and disco at the Cathedral Youth Club.

Visit to the Memorial Hall

On wednesday 18th November the young people from the Cathedral Youth Club went on a visit to the Memorial Hall. We had the oportunity to learn about the Apprentice Boys who closed the City Gates during the siege of Derry in 1689. We  saw many historical objets related to the history of the Apprentice Boys fraternal society. We also learned about the Celebration of the Gates or the "Lundy Day" which takes place in the first Saturday of December.

The Celebrations start with the symbolic firing of a cannon on the city's historic walls at midnight. 13 members of a Parent Club will then make their way to each of the four original City gates, as the 13 apprentices did in 1688.

The main celebrations begin later on Saturday with the visiting Branch Clubs and bands parading from the Waterside to the Memorial Hall. The main parade then makes its way from Society Street around the City Centre to a service of thanksgiving in St Columb's Cathedral. Following the service, the parade makes its way back to Bishop Street for the traditional burning of Lundy the Traitor.

We saw the Lundy the Traitor that was prepared for the burning.
